Mcdonalds new spicy chicken nuggets!

Spicy chicken McNuggets
  • £3.19 for six
  • £3.49 for nine
  • £4.99 for 20

Boy were we on the ball with this one! I think this is the fasted we have ever tried a new release. The spicy McChicken nuggets were launched today (7th august) here in the Uk. They come in either 6,9 or 20 plus their new tabasco style spicy dip. They have already been trialled in the USA and Asia and are a permanent feature on the Australian McDonalds menu.

We were a little worried that these would have sold out bat our local McDonalds as we couldn’t get there until the evening, but thank the lord they must have prepared well and stocked up because we managed to get our hands on some.

We were very eagerly waiting to try these because we all love a good chicken nugget, and what could be better that a little added kick to the original recipe to spice things up! We had also hear some exciting things from people who had already been lucky enough to try these from the countries that they have already been launched in. They have already been trialled in USA, Asia and they are now a permanent feature on the Australian menu. But of course the UK were the last ones to receive them, as always…

As you can see from the image I have kindly inserted above for all your lovely eyes to see, the new nugget is a lot more vibrant in colour than the original golden nug, it kind of reminded us of a hot Cheeto! It also smelled quite spicy and kind of like onion rings, the battered kind, not the crips.

We decided to do a bite without the sauce and a bite with the sauce to compare. The first bite without the sauce tasted of, well, nothing really. It wasn’t spicy, which we were hoping for, if anything it left a slight warm feeling in your mouth after you had finished your bite, but nothing to get excited over. We were hoping that the tabasco style sauce was going to help recover any hope we had left, but upon opening the dip we were faced with a very unpleasant smell. It reminded us of olive paste that we have had when in Crete, which is a very acquired taste and defiantly not for everyone, just like this sauce. We can’t really explain the flavour of it, we just know that it barley had any spice to it either, it did not blow our socks off. We also didn’t thing it was the right sauce to accompany the nugget, we though maybe a very spicy salsa would have been more suited, or a spicy mayo. A bit like the new supercharger sauce from KFC.

Anyway, to say we were disappointed was a bit of an understatement, considering how long we had been waiting for these to launch. I think we are going to stick to the original McDonalds nuggets, because for us nothing compares…Not yet anyway!

If you would like to try these for yourself, don’t hesitate because they are only on out menu for 9 weeks! So hurry on down and take a bite, just don’t get your hopes up.

Just how hot is taco bells Volcano Burrito?

Taco bells volcano burrito
£6.99 for a meal

This weekend we decided to tackle Taco Bells volcano burrito, which Taco Bell claim is an explosion in your mouth! We are aware that this isn’t exactly brand new to the menu but its new to us okay so just roll with it…

The burrito comes with your choice of either beef, chicken or refried beans and filled with the necessary Mexican rice, sour cream and cheese, swaddled in a tortilla wrap. But what makes this burrito different is that is also comes equipped with crushed nachos and taco bells very own lava sauce! sounds good right?

Well we think we are going to have to disagree on this one. Now don’t get us wrong the lava sauce is a tad spicy, but it isn’t anywhere near the volcanic level, so unless you can’t handle your spice you are going to be pretty let down by the lack of heat! You might also thing the crushed nachos are going to add a nice crunch to your burrito…wrong! By the time you actually bite into it the juices and sauces from the rest of the filling have tainted the nachos and turned them soggy, so you can’t can’t actually tell they are in there anymore.

We both also had to agree on the fact that there was not enough sour cream or cheese in the burrito to break up all the flavours, we have previously tried the Dorito burrito and the sauce to filling ratio was absolutely perfect, but in this one we were slightly disappointed at the lack of it.

It.s safe to say we didn’t enjoy our trip to Taco Bell this time round which is s shame because we have never been disappointed by anything that we have tried their! This item also doesn’t come as a box meal which it claims to do on the website it just comes as an ordinary meal, so no extra taco or dessert with this one!

We still love Taco Bell we just won’t be getting this particular item again!

The Ultimate BMT!

Ultimate BMT from Subway.
  • Classic BMT 6″ £3.59
  • Classic BMT footlong £5.99
  • Ultimate BMT 6″ £4.60
  • Ultimate BMT footlong £7.00

So we maybe a bit late to the game with this one but back in April of this year the new Ultimate cheesy garlic bread finally made its way over to the UK, and (spoiler alert) let’s just say its a game changer.

We all know and love the classic BMT, which we have only just learnt stands for ‘BIGGEST, MEATIEST, TASTIEST’ but actually originally stood for ‘Brooklyn Manhattan Transit.’ Now don’t say we never teach you anything new!

The classic BMT comes filled with pepperoni, salami and ham, obviously with added cheese, were not criminals! Complete with the added extras of your choice and sandwiched between one of their delicious freshly baked breads. This is already one heck of a sandwich right? Now here’s where the game changer comes in, for an extra £2.00 you can now add garlic and parsley butter, mozzarella and red cheddar to make it the ULTIMATE BMT!

Now our question was, is it worth the extra money. Don’t get us wrong £2.00 extra isn’t exactly breaking the bank, but when it comes to a total of £7 per sandwich it’s starting to get a little on the expensive side,

Never the less we sank our teeth in and was greeted with an explosion of flavours, the garlic butter really does pack a punch and give a whole new experience to the sandwich! Its makes the sandwich a lot more richer in flavour, and gives it a more authentic Italian feel. The two different style cheeses also add a nice tang to it, with the mozzarella giving you an almost pizza like experience.

Needless to say we devouwered the lot within a few minutes, one of us however (Levi) found it bit sickly towards the very end, not enough to ruin the sandwich but she definitely couldn’t eat a foot long!

We both decided that the extra £2 was worth the money for the added garlic butter and cheese especially if you are sharing it between two of you! We also got a side of hash browns which are 99p for 6 from the saver menu, which is a great price, and we paid an extra £1.50 to make the sandwich a meal deal so it came with a drink and a cookie. That makes it just under £10 for a footlong ultimate sandwich, 6 hash browns, a cookie and a drink, we think that is pretty good value for money if you ask us, and the overall first bite test was a big thumbs up from bloggers eat!

Burger Kings new halloumi burger…

…is it worth the price?

Cost:

  • single burger £3.99, £5.99 for a meal.
  • double burger £5.49, £7.49 for a meal.

You may have seen that Burger King released a new halloumi burger in the recent weeks, well being the food lovers that we are we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it! Anything with the word halloumi in it already has our names written all over it.

The burger usually comes complete with either a single or double halloumi patty, crisp lettuce, onions, tomato and creamy mayo all sandwiched in between a beautiful brioche bun. Note the word usually. Im not sure if we arrived too late or if the Burger King we went to didn’t prepare very well but they ran out of brioche buns, so we weren’t off to a great start from, but we proceeded anyway because we needed to know if this was as good as it looked! (I would insert one of the promo photos here but I don’t want to get sued for copywrite, I’m sure you guys understand).

We both bought the double halloumi burger meal and a portion of chicken fries each (if you haven’t already you need to try those) and it came to a grand total of £24…yes you read that right, £24 whole English pounds for some bread with cheese in and some fries, i’m sorry but we only pay those prices for FiveGuys.

After we got over the shock of the price we thought we better take a look at this burger. We unwrapped it with excitment and….it did not look like the promo photo whatsoever! We knew we weren’t getting the brioche bun but instead we were given the whopper burger bun which we all know is very large, so it engulfed the contents of the burger, of which looked like they had been thrown in as you can see from the image above (and this was after some slight arranging to make it some what photo worthy), but we took the long awaited bite anyway.

We both looked at each other with the same dissapointed look on out faces…the halloumi patties in itself were a bit tasteless, and could have done with being a bit more saltier. It defiantly had the typical squeak that halloumi has but when we received it it was quite cold which makes it chewy, halloumi needs to be served piping hot in order for it to still be soft. We are glad we went for the double patties because they are quite thin in comparison to what you think you will be getting in the promo photo, so you need the double burger to be able to get a hint of flavour. We definitely had too much bread to burger ratio but that was probably be because of the wrong bun being used, so that could have contributed to the lack of flavour.

Needless to say we were quite disappointed with the product, especially for the price we paid for it. When you can go to other fast food chains and get a full meal for £5 that is very tasty, £24 for two just seems a bit too expensive. We can justify it if it was a bacon double cheeseburger, which is Levi’s usual order, and paying for quality meat products but not for two bits of cheese with a bit of salad in a bun (and did we mention it was the wrong bun).

Its not the best burger we’ve tasted, it didn’t blow our socks off but its defiantly not the worst either, it was just a bit meh, and we were left feeling disappointed. That being said we think it is a great option to have on the menu if you are a vegetarian as we don’t think many fast food chains cater to that diet choice enough, just don’t be expecting your tastebuds to explode from it!

We hope you enjoyed our first proper blog post, and we hope you stick around to read more!
